How It Works
The Custom Design Process
Custom design at Burbank Jewelry Outlet starts with a conversation, not a catalog. Here is what happens after you walk in or book a consultation:
Consultation
Sit with our jeweler at our Burbank studio. Bring photos, a sketch, or just an idea. We listen, ask the right questions, and tell you what’s feasible in 14K gold, 18K gold, or platinum, and at what approximate cost.
Design Sketch
Our jeweler produces a technical drawing based on the consultation. You review it, suggest changes, and we refine until the design is exactly what you had in mind.
3D-Printed Model
Before a single gram of gold is committed, we print a physical model at exact scale. You hold it. You check the size, the proportions, and the weight. If something is off, we adjust. If it is right, you approve it and we cast it.
Casting
Solid gold or platinum is cast in-house at our Burbank bench. The metal is sourced and alloyed to our specifications. No imports, no mystery alloys.
Finishing
Stone setting, surface finishing, polishing, and quality inspection all happen at the same bench where the piece was designed. When you pick it up, you are picking it up from the same hands that made it.

Custom pricing depends on design complexity, gold weight, and stone selection. We give you an accurate estimate before you commit. No surprises at pickup.
Turnaround
2–4 Weeks
Most custom pieces are ready in 2–4 weeks from design approval. Rush timelines are available on request. We will confirm your timeline at the consultation.
Materials
Solid Gold or Platinum
Custom work is available in 14K gold, 18K gold, or platinum, in yellow, white, or rose gold tones. Stone options include diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, and customer-supplied stones.

Custom Design FAQ
Can I bring my own stone?
Yes. Many customers bring stones they already own, including heirlooms, and have us design and build a new setting around them. Bring the stone to the consultation and we will assess it before committing to a design.
Is a 3D model included in the cost?
Yes. The 3D model is part of our standard custom design process. You do not pay extra for it. It is the step that protects you from receiving a finished piece that does not match what you had in mind.
Do you do engagement rings?
We do. Engagement rings and wedding bands are some of the most common custom pieces we make. The process is the same: consultation, sketch, 3D model, approval, casting, finishing. Bridal pieces account for a significant portion of our custom work every year.
